About
Our Bikes
All of our bikes have BMW "GS" suspension which provides more road clearance and more suspension travel than any cruiser, sport bike, or touring bike can. It also delivers the agility and stability for carving through the turns. The result is a safer and more confident ride that leaves the rider free to enjoy the country.

BMW
R1200 GS
The BMW R1200 GS pretty well defines comfortable adventure touring and is a good choice for long-haul or two-up travel in Mexico. The liquid cooled boxer twin has increased power and combined with the new lighter chassis, makes for a lively performance.
-
BMW
F700 GS
The F700 GS is a further development of the F650 GS (twin) with a slightly more powerful version of the successful 800 cc parallel twin and upgrades in the suspension and brakes.

BMW
F650 GS (factory lowered)
The F650GS is an energetic 800cc twin almost identical to the F700 GS models that we like so much. It is similarly equipped with all the extras including ABS, tire pressure sensors and aftermarket windshield for added protection. However, it has a factory-lowered chassis which allows riders with shorter inseam to keep both feet firmly planted on the ground. Like the F700GS it also offers an optional lowered seat option.

Our Story
Riders of the Sierra Madre was founded in 2009 by John and Lynn Gilbank, a Canadian couple who met in Mexico nearly 30 years prior. Having spent several years away, John and Lynn returned to Mexico with an invigorated passion for everything the country had to offer, and motorcycle riding.
In 2019 ownership of the company was passed to Terry Vidal and his wife Amalia Garcia. Terry and Amalia met in central Minnesota in 2001 and married in Mexico City in 2008. Amalia's first motorcycle ride was with Terry when he rode his bike from Mille Lacs, Minnesota to Guadalajara over the U.S. thanksgiving holiday in 2008. Terry has never owned a car in Mexico, commuting daily on two wheels.
Amalia has worked for IBM since 1995 but her true passion is volunteering for Operacion Amor, a non-profit providing spay & neuter clinics in the Chapala Lakeside area. After marrying Amalia, Terry, a trained museum professional, left his U.S. career to begin a new adventure in Mexico.
Employed as the Executive Director of the Lake Chapala Society since 2008, Terry resigned to begin a new chapter in his life, to take over the reigns of the business that John and Lynn founded.

The scenery was second to none, our group of new friends was cohesive and friendly and all looked out for each other. We felt safe and well looked after. The people of Mexico are warmth, generosity and kindness personified. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
